Hyunjin Park is based in Seoul, currently works in Ithaca, NY. She explores the boundaries between the ephemeral and eternal, life and death, and intimate encounters by reinterpreting Korean traditional motifs, childhood, and plant and animal bodies, with a specific focus on representations of dogs. Working expansively across video, installation, drawing, and performances, particularly with women artists. She considers how acts of care for non-human entities can shape our relationship to art-making, both materially and conceptually.
Her works have been presented at such venues as Insaart Space (Seoul, Korea), Openspace Bae (Busan, Korea), All Time Space (Seoul, Korea), Jungganjijeon (Seoul, Korea), Hui Gallery (Satin, Hong Kong), Total Art Museum (Seoul, Korea).
박현진은 사람과 동물의 몸으로 빗댈 수 있는 자국, 흔적, 껍데기를 만들어 설치하는 일에 관심이 있습니다. 누군가와의 상실을 기억하고 또 그것을 두려워 하는 마음은, 양 손에 한가득 모래 무덤을 들어올려 모래알 하나 하나의 역사와 시간을 상상하고 체감하는 일일 것이라 생각하곤 합니다. 아울러, 작업 과정에서 마주하는 이들의 ‘몸과 몸 사이의 경계’를 고민하고 기억하기 위해 퍼포먼스, 인터뷰, 영상으로 만남과 대화의 순간을 담아내왔습니다.
